Suggested Itinerary
Day One – Brighton / Chichester
On your departure from London, you can drive through the rolling countryside known as the Downs perhaps stopping off at the beautiful Nymans Gardens en route. Then it’s an easy drive down into the pretty Georgian town of Brighton. Here you’ll have time to explore the impressive seafront, the Royal Pavilion built by George IV and the shopper’s paradise of Brighton Lanes offering a vast selection of shops and boutiques.
Day Two – Chichester / Bath / Bristol
After a hearty English breakfast you will drive west, perhaps via the picturesque town of Chichester or past the Neolithic stone circle of Stonehenge. Whichever route you take you will not fail to be impressed with the iconic English rustic villages and chalk hills. In the afternoon why not take time to explore the spa town of Bath on foot. This was established by the Romans in the earlier years of the 1st century AD and its warm spa waters have been popular with visitors ever since. You can try them at the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms (entrance fee not included). Continue to the Georgian port of Bristol
once Britain’s most important seaports.
Day Three – Bristol / Cotswolds / Stratford-upon-Avon
Bristol has been regenerated since its decline in importance in international trade and most of the old dock areas are now excellent museums. You can visit Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the first iron hulled ship in the world, made in Bristol. From here your drive takes you through the picture postcard scenery of the Cotswolds finishing in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare where you can still visit the house he was born in.
Day Four – Oxford / London
Your drive today will take you south to the university town of Oxford with its ‘Dreaming Spires’ and stunning college buildings. Perhaps you may want to try punting on the river or just wander through the colleges and shops to feel the spirit of the town. From here it’s a leisurely drive back to your hotel in London.
Day Five – London
Day free at leisure to explore London
